On the last day of Exmouth Deaf Awareness Week the junior rugby players from Exmouth RFU had great fun playing Silent Rugby!
Deaf and hearing junior players and their coaches from Exmouth RFC and Wales Deaf Rugby took part to raise awareness of some of the challenges faced by deaf rugby players in the sport. Our very own World Champion, William Thomas of the Wales Deaf Rugby Union was there, and BSL Bear also popped by 🙂
The teams wore earplugs during their training session, to simulate what it might be like for a Deaf rugby player on the pitch, and to explore the different ways of communicating with each other while playing. They used BSL, gesture and waving to get each other’s attention and share strategies.
Watch the clip below to see what one of the young players had to say!
