Building a future for ambitious young Deaf lives

The Deaf Academy is a unique place where Deaf children and young people aged 5-25 are inspired to believe in themselves and journey towards successful independent lives.

Without support, Deaf children struggle to learn language. Our students often come to us with very limited vocabulary, which can lead to communication and behavioural challenges. Deaf children can feel incredibly isolated and at high risk of developing mental health issues.

Our goal is to change this. We welcome children from across the UK, all of whom are Deaf, and many of whom may have additional complex needs. We have a strong reputation for engaging students failed elsewhere in education.

We provide home-from-home residential care to the majority of our students. We also run a year round children’s home for those who need it.

“Before coming to the Deaf Academy I didn’t like school, I had been to many different ones and wasn’t learning anymore. Here at the Deaf Academy it’s great. I work really hard. I have also been elected Head of the Student Council where we discuss and campaign on issues important to our school and the Deaf community.”

“If I hadn’t come to the Deaf Academy I don’t think I’d be doing anything really. Because I didn’t know who I was when I came here, I couldn’t sign which was very scary, I couldn’t communicate. Now I can sign fully and use my voice.”
